This grade 2 listed pub was the first pub in Devon to be listed in the Michelin Pub Guide and has now been voted Devons Best Country Pub for 2007 by readers of Devon Life magazine.
The CHI at Marldon was originally built around 1400 and gave accommodation to the artisans working on the church, after which it became the meeting house for the church congregation and finally the Village Inn.
It was rebuilt in the early eighteenth century and has the most stunning listed Georgian windows.
Some of the original glass still remains, despite being next to the village cricket pitch – where “sixes” are now outlawed !

From the pub there are many beautiful country walks including the famous John Musgrave Heritage Trail which heads through Marldon past the pub and through the grounds of Berry Pomerory Castle on its way to Totnes. 
Ideally situated between Berry Pomerory Castle and Compton Castle the pub makes a perfect venue to relax and enjoy the hospitality after visiting one of these historic buildings.

Hanbury’s Fish and Chips is so well known locally. After winning countless awards and keeping the quality at a premium level, they have developed an enviable following. Both a takeaway and a restaurant, you will need to wait about 5-10 minutes for a fresh takeaway and need to book the restaurant in advance (generally).

John Dory, plaice, lemon sole and brill come from Polperro and Looe, while the cod and haddock are sustainably fished in Iceland and Norway. Maureen and David Hanbury fry the fish and chips in groundnut oil and wrap them in non-toxic newspaper

Torquay's oldest pub, built in 1540, the Hole-in-the-Wall is tucked away in Park Lane, a little side street off the Strand, the restaurant district. From the front entrance, the pub looks small, but it actually has a 70-seater restaurant which opens for dinner. There’s also live music on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday.
